Welcome to ShockWave Boxers. We are Akshatha
SHetty and Scott BadcOCK. We are avid exhibitors, trainers, owners, and enthusiasts in general, of Boxers, and a Rottweiler :).
Akshatha's love affair with dogs began as a
toddler and is a trait she is known amongst her extensive family and friends for. From as far back as conscious memory allows, she always had a family dog; be it the cute fluffy Pomeranian
that the veggies were slipped to, the huge German Shepherd who
endured being riden on, or the surprise birthday present
of a ‘shit-zu cross’ that
really surprised everyone by looking more like a golden lab!
When she got older and moved out on her own, one of her first
goals was to establish herself enough to get her own dog. That
dog wound up being Peyton, a Rottie from a backyard breeder. Probably
not the wisest choice in source, but a decision in breed
that could never be regreted! She fell in love with this magnificent
breed, and no-one could convince her there was a better dog
in the world! Enter Scott! :) Having similarly grown up with
his share of the canine rainbow, Scott lost his heart to
the Boxer breed after being entrusted to take care of a relative’s
adult brindle female for several months.
When Scott and Akshatha first met, although
Peyton quickly and surely won him over, Scott still insisted
Boxers were better! Whether due to his persistence, or just to
prove him wrong, our first boxer was obtained. Paige opened the door to a new world of adventures in Dog Shows, health testing, canine nutrition, ethical breeding, and endless amusement at Boxer antics. As with all new adventures, there were a fair share of ups and downs that would have shaken the average newcomer. But just like the noble breeds that we’ve since come to agree can share the title of "Best Breed" (at least in our home :), we're a tenacious bunch and have come through a little wiser, a little warier, but a lot more focused on our goals and values.
With our Rottweiler, and now our two
Boxers (I swear they’re like the Lays™ potato
chips – can’t have just one!) we recently
made the long move out west, right across the country from our native East Coast roots of Newfoundland, to
Calgary, Alberta. When we’re not busy with being back in school,
work, or settling into our new house, we enjoy participating
in conformation, and hopefully in the near future, obedience or agility,
with our dogs. They’ve introduced us to so many wonderful
new activities and people, and while its been a time of
much change and new adventures, we’re definitely
excited about being here, and what the future holds.
We don’t refer to ourselves as
a kennel, since we have no plans to breed either regularly,
or frequently; our dogs are first
and foremost our pets and family members and a breeding will only be considered if and when we are ready to add to our household.
We truly feel that while owning a dog is a privilege, breeding
a dog is an exponentially greater one. And as the saying
goes, with great privilege comes great responsibility.
With the alarming and heartbreaking population of abandoned,
abused, and unwanted animals that exist today, we take
very seriously the conscious decision to bring an animal
into this world, and our role in securing its safe and
happy future.
